Internet Terms and Definitions #2

Internet filter-is a term for software designed and optimized for controlling what content is permitted to a reader, especially when it is used to restrict material delivered over.
Download-Computer Science To transfer (data or programs) from a server or host computer to one's own computer or device.
File transfer protocol-A client-server protocol which allows a user on one computer to transfer files to and from another computer over a TCP/IP network.
Home page-the homepage (often written as home page) is the URL or local file that automatically loads when a web browser starts or when the browser's "home" button is pressed. One can turn this feature off and on, as well as specify a URL for the page to be loaded.
Plug-in-An accessory software program that extends the capabilities of an existing application.
Search engine-a computer program that searches documents, esp. on the World Wide Web, for a specified word or words and provides a list of documents in which they are found.
Internet service provider-A company or organization that provides access to the Internet through its servers, usually for a fee.
Web site-a connected group of pages on the World Wide Web regarded as a single entity, usually maintained by one person or organization and devoted to a single topic or several closely related topics.
Webmaster- A person whose occupation is designing, developing, marketing, or maintaining websites.
Worm-A computer worm is a self-replicating computer program. It uses a network to send copies of itself to other nodes (computers on the network) and it may do so without any user intervention. Unlike a virus, it does not need to attach itself to an existing program. Worms almost always cause at least some harm to the network, if only by consuming bandwidth, whereas viruses almost always corrupt or devour files on a targeted computer.
